Set Up a Webhook Automation in SocialBu

A webhook is like a smart notification system. It allows your application to get real-time updates when something specific happens, just like a doorbell rings when someone is at your door. With SocialBu, you can use webhooks to trigger automated actions whenever a custom event occurs outside of the platform.

Step 1: Go to Automate

Log in to your SocialBu account and click the "Automate" tab from the sidebar menu.

Step 2: Create a New Automation

Click "+ New Automation" in the top right corner.

Assign a name to your automation. For example, "Trigger Post from Webhook Event".

Step 3: Select the Event

In the Flow Editor, add or select the trigger node and choose "Webhook is triggered". Once selected, SocialBu will generate a unique Webhook URL for you. This is the address where you’ll send POST requests to trigger the automation. Webhook automations support POST requests only.

Step 4: Send a POST Request

To trigger this automation, send a POST request to the generated Webhook URL from your app, tool, or service. You can include custom JSON data in your request payload. The request body can then be used in supported automation fields.

Webhook automations run when the webhook URL receives a POST request. Do not rely on normal action-group conditions to filter different webhook payloads inside the same automation. For payload-specific routing, use separate webhook automations or handle the branching before sending the request to SocialBu.

Step 5: Choose the Action(s)

Add one or more action nodes to define what should happen when the webhook is triggered. You can choose from:

  • Send an Email β€” Notify your team or user.

  • Publish a Post β€” Automatically post to selected social accounts.

  • Add a Post to a Queue β€” Recycle content at intervals.

  • Send an HTTP Request β€” For advanced integrations or API calls. The HTTP Request action currently supports POST requests with a JSON body only.

If you choose the Publish a Post action, you can attach media from an available media URL and optionally schedule when the post should be published.

Step 6: Save Your Automation

Once everything is configured, click β€œSave”. Then switch the automation to Active when you are ready for the webhook to run.

FAQs

  • What tools can send a POST request to the webhook URL?

You can use tools like Zapier, Make, Postman, or custom code in Python, JavaScript, or any programming language that supports HTTP POST requests.

  • Can I pass data through the Webhook?

Yes. Send the data in the body of your POST request, then use the available request body placeholder in supported fields such as post content, email body, or HTTP request body.

  • Can I use multiple actions in one automation?

Yes. You can add multiple actions to one webhook automation. After testing, check the automation history to confirm the payload and actions worked as expected.

  • Is there a way to test if my webhook works?

Yes, after setting up the automation, you can send a test POST request to the Webhook URL to verify the trigger and check the logs. SocialBu also blocks requests sent by its own HTTP agent to help prevent webhook loops.
